Editing blog task
The editing in this clip switched throughout the scene using longer clips and straight cuts while it was peaceful with Jason trying to fill up his car. However, the scene soon switches to fast clips and jump cut to create the scene of a fight to the audience.
The continuity edit at the start of him entering the gas station then switches to him filling up the car this gives the audience the idea that this is inside the gas station, this links to the mise en scene as we see the owner of the petrol garage wearing scruffy clothes and looking dirty. The tracking shots of Jason links with the editing as we watch his movements as he is just there to do one thing. The close ups of Jason and the man shows the tranquility of the situation and we expect nothing to happen. The straight cut link to the scene as it’s the most used and common edit suggesting everything is normal
Next, we get a long shot of the car coming in from a long angle to suggest that they may cause a problem or they have importance otherwise they wouldn’t show it. This then switches to a close up of Jason to suggest he seems to see them as a threat as he watches closely through the mirror. The sound also links to the editing as they get out the vehicle the diegetic music stops this shows how they are trying to act normal as if they are not going to do anything but Jason seems to be more suspect to suggest he is more skilled than us and knows what is about to happen. Next the sound of the two people suggest how they are just coming him to fix the car as they swear.
This then switches to an increase in tension as we see through the facial expressions that the guy is hear for Jason as he demands the pump. These over the shoulder shots create more tension as Jason is not going to give up the pump and he starts to realise the severity of the situation as he knows there is two. However he tries to remain calm The clip then switches to a point of view shot of the man working at the petrol garage showing the two guys staring at Jason while he is just trying to keep to himself. It then switches to a close up of him as the owner suspects something is about to happen but then it is soon closed down by the man.
They then turn off the pump to annoy Jason as they came here for him and Jason soon realises. The close up of the mans face shows how serious he is but Jason is still looking down showing how he has done nothing wrong. The man then cuts across Jason to stop him from turning the pump back on suggesting to Jason he’s going to have to fight. When Jason turns the pump back on the facial expressions show that they are not impressed with the editing linking to the sound with the non diegetic sound starting as he gets closer to Jason.
It then switches to a montage of clips using jump cuts to show the fight. The music also changes to a sort of disorientated sound as the man gets smashed into the car. These jump cuts show to the audience that it is clearly a fight, the fast clips show how quickly the fight was and each move Jason done to defeat them.In the middle of this scene it also uses a straight cut showing Jason fixing his heat suggesting how easy it is for him.
The lighting links with the editing as the fight starts the lighting gets darker to maybe suggest the mood of Jason to show he is ready to fight. The fast switch of angles may confuse the audience just like the 2 men as they never thought they would lose this fight.
It then switched to longer clips creating a more calm situation to show that the fight is over. The long angle shows of Jason suggest the power he has over them, this also switches back to straight cuts showing how the fight is over using tracking shots of Jason when knowing that they are not from around there. This editing creates a more tranquil tone as the 2 men understand that they have lost because of the bloody head and being on the floor.
Overall, the editing in this clip links to all the migrain media aspects and may attract audiences who like action, it also links to the mise en scene, sound, cinematography and genre.
